    Francesca Verga is a PhD canditate at the department of Art and Culture at the University of Amsterdam since 2015. Her research focuses on sites of memory as stages to develop visual narrations and fictional identities within the field of contemporary art. Her Phd focuses particularly on the work and visual legacies of Mike Kelley, case study to propose a different perspective on the theme. She is interested in artistic research that addresses the topics of ‘documentary fictions’, novelistic imagination, representation of history and folk-culture, exploring the tension between reality and fiction.

     

    Her work is supervised by Prof. Christa-Maria Lerm Hayes (University of Amsterdam), Prof. John C. Welchman (University of California, San Diego), Prof. Rob van deer Laarse (University of Amsterdam) and is part of the Research School for Heritage, Memory and Material Culture (AHM). She is also part of the group of research Sites of Memory in Contemporary Art at UvA.

     

    Francesca holds a Master Degree in Arts Management with a focus on Museum Management and Exhibitions (2014) from the Università Cattolica in Milan, Italy. In 2014 she worked in the management of Savvy Contemporary (Berlin) in the development of four exhibitions. She worked as a curatorial assistant to independent curators and AoN, and was researcher at the Network of European Museums Organizations (NEMO) in Berlin. Currently, she is working for the Manifesta 12 edition of the biennial that will be held in Palermo, 2018.
