Research Master

Archaeology and Heritage (Archaeology)

Compare programme

The innovative, interdisciplinary two-year Research Master's programme Archaeology and Heritage offers a unique opportunity to combine processes that shape collective memory and determine how society deals with tangible and intangible remnants and narratives of the past. The programme provides in-depth training in the theory and practice of material culture, archaeology and heritage studies.

A unique combination of scientific traditions

The Research Master's programme in Archaeology and Heritage trains you to think critically about how human societies have dealt with the past in pre-modern times, as well as the diverse and conflicting ways in which the past is interpreted and put to use in the world today. Our innovative programme offers you a strong theoretical and conceptual foundation in heritage studies, archaeology and material culture and, crucially, teaches you how these fields intersect in the past and present. Through lectures, tutorials and internships, you will be able to integrate all branches of research focusing on the material and intangible remains of the past. We investigate the reciprocal relations between objects and meanings, and the dynamics of memory, from diverse theoretical and methodological perspectives, creating a uniquely combined research programme for you to join.
