This workshop is the inaugural event of a new research project "Sound Affairs: Sonic Histories of Foreign Relations, 1700-1900." This project, funded by an UvA FGw Starting Grant, examines how sound shaped interstate relations in the past. The workshop consists of presentations by three researchers, followed by expert commentaries, and an interactive session on digital methods. After the workshop, there will be a public lecture by Holger Schulze at Spui25.
